Spring birds

These sweet little birds are making us dream about springtime. Julie used one of our new A4 stencils to create the background circle. It is the perfect backdrop for this lovely little scene.

Begin by cutting a piece of white smooth card stock approximately 12x12cm and layering the largest round circle from the mask centrally over the white card.  Fix in place with masking tape.  Gently brush inks from the outside to the centre of the circle in your chosen colours – I’ve used three for contrast.  Then layer over the bubbles mask and ink through for added depth.  Finally, spritz some water onto the circle and dab off with paper towel. This gives a very subtle layer of bubbles when used with Distress Oxides as they respond to the water. Remove the masks and either wait until dry or dry off with a heat tool.

For the next part, I inked only the bottom half of the bird stamp with black ink and stamped it in the bottom left corner of the circle.  Stamp the blossom images so that they are part in and part out around the top right of the circle. Lightly colour the birds and blossoms with toning pencils.  Next cut out the inked image with the decorative frame from the Die set and using foam pads, mount onto green card that has also been cut with one of the larger dies in the set.  Fix this onto the design paper and then finally add a base square mat slightly larger than the design paper.  Stamp the sentiment onto white card stock, mount on green card and then onto foam to for depth. And fix in the top right corner.
